Cleveland GUARDIANS Go Live

( Cleveland ) - New name. New era.

For the first time since 1915, Cleveland's professional baseball team has changed its name and is now officially the Cleveland Guardians.

The name change was made Friday on the team's social media handles, website, and the new Guardians Team Store, which started selling merchandise to fans lined up outside at 9am.

"Today marks a major step in our transition to the Cleveland Guardians, launching a new era in Cleveland baseball at Progressive Field that embodies the pride, resiliency and loyalty of Clevelanders," President of Business Operations Brian Barren said in a statement.

Team gear ranging from tshirts to hats to hoodies and more all went on sale Friday morning. Actual on-field jerseys and caps will be available for sale by the start of the 2022 season.

The only place to get new Guardians gear is at the Team Store at Progressive Field, along with New Era, Nike, MLB Flagship Store, and MLBshop.com. Other northeast Ohio retailers are expected to begin selling Guardians merchandise on November 23.
