Greed, excess, manipulation, robbery: this budget bill represents the worst of Washington DC

TWO THOUSAND, TWO HUNDRED AND THIRTY-TWO PAGES… that’s how long the newest budget bill is.

A small select group of lawmakers wrote this monstrosity and delivered it to the rest of Congress last night. But no worries! I’m sure your Congressman has PLENTY of time to read over this thing and make sure all your needs are met. There’s NO WAY this thing gets rushed through. Oh, wait… THEY’RE VOTING ON IT TOMORROW.

Two thousand, two hundred and thirty-two pages. Let’s put that into perspective for just a second. Expecting someone to read this bill before they vote on it tomorrow would be like asking them to read War and Peace, not once, BUT TWICE. War and Peace is only 1,400 pages. Not even a speed reader could get that done.

The truth is obvious. Most of Congress won’t even attempt to read this, but they’ll be guilted into voting for it anyway because… “THE GOVERNMENT MAY SHUT DOWN IF WE DON’T!!!”

$1.3 trillion of YOUR MONEY is at stake here. Yeah but, we’re dealing with a lot of complicated things this time, right? The border wall, DACA… If you were hoping to hear about either of those you’re going to be severely disappointed.

Those two issues, which held up the budget agreement last time, are nowhere to be found in this two thousand plus page mega-bill. Wow, it’s almost like neither side actually really cares about either issue. Almost like it’s just one big game.

So what IS getting funded? Well… Planned Parenthood is still getting money from OUR pockets. A half a billion dollar project to build a tunnel under the Hudson River is in there. I’m sure that doesn’t benefit New York Senator Chuck Schumer at all…

“This isn’t governing.”

The amount of wasteful spending is out of control. We’ve cut taxes, so we SHOULD be cutting back spending, but Washington is raising the national debt at a historic rate. In the last six months, the national debt has grown by ONE TRILLION DOLLARS. Has the debt grown that quickly before? Oh sure, back in 2009 during the GREAT RECESSION.

We’re now looking at $21 trillion in total debt, and there is NO sign that ANYONE in Washington cares to do anything about it. To the contrary, they just hid even more wasteful spending into a two thousand two hundred and thirty two page bill that THEY KNOW everyone won’t have time to read. This budget bill represents the worst Washington DC stands for: greed, excess, manipulation and outright robbery.

This isn’t governing. Who in Washington will take a stand and stop this?
