A local family will be recognized at the Farm Science Review by the Ohio Department of Agriculture this week. Since 1984, the Conservation Farm Family Award has recognized Ohio Farm Families for their exemplary efforts in conserving soil, water, woodlands, wildlife and other natural resources on their farmland. One of this year’s five recipients from around the state is the Rufenacht family, including James, Jason, Cork, Brian and Cory. Together they own 3,300 acres of row crops in Fulton and Henry Counties, producing corn, soybeans and wheat, with 3,200 head of Holstein beef. Their farm has been used to conduct county soil judging, and they host on-farm research trials. Their conservation practices include cover crops, filter strips, drainage water management, and conservation tillage. The ceremony to honor the Rufenacht family will be Thursday at 11:30am at the Farm Science Review.
